Eastern Ports: NPA, MEMPON To Partner On Ports Development

The general manager (Eastern Ports) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Abdullahi Goje, and the Maritime and Energy Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MEMPON), have resolved to work in synergy towards the development of the ports in the region.

This followed a courtesy visit paid to the NPA general manager, and his management, by the national president, Amb Dr. Ralph John, and members of MEMPON, last week in Port Harcourt.

Goje said NPA is rooted in service delivery, and will comply with the recent directive by the acting president on prompt cargo delivery and services at the port.

He commended the Federal Ministry of Transport over the initiative on Port reforms, noting that it will bring about efficiency and service delivery.

Goje said the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Port Service Support Portal (PSSP) will help to remove bottlenecks at the ports, and fast track 24-hour cargo delivery across the ports in Nigeria.

He urged MEMPON to see themselves as media partners to NPA, in order to bridge communication gap between NPA and stakeholders.

National president of MEMPON, Amb. Dr. Ralph John, said MEMPON is a registered body, with interest in maritime and energy reportage, promising to work in synergy with NPA and management of the Eastern ports.

He said MEMPON is proactive in working at solutions to issues militating against the development of the maritime sector, and expressed the association’s commitment to improving activities at the ports in the Eastern zone.

He later invited the NPA general manager to MEMPON’s planned maritime summit billed to hold in Port Harcourt toward the end of June.

Those present during the parley include Mrs. Irene Udolisa, principal manager (Public Affairs), Engr. Chuks Orji, Project Manager, Mr. Bath Ndubuwah (vice president MEMPON) and Hon Golden Engr. Onyema, MEMPON National Secretary, and publisher News Angle Newspaper.
