Worried by the intimidating number of abandoned Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) projects dotting every part of Niger Delta, with Bayelsa topping the chart, a group under the aegis of Ijaw Monitoring Group (IMG) and Niger Delta Peace Advocacy (NDPAG), have joined other voices to warn against “sponsored campaigns” for the confirmation of the acting managing director of the commission, Prof Nelson Brambaifa.
They said that such campaigns should be jettisoned because the next chairman is expected to be produced by Delta State, which already has a similar agency DESOPADEC which would collaborate in infrastructure development of the areas.
They further condemned in its entirety, the calls for the confirmation of Prof Brambaifa which they described as an aberration.
Rising from an enlarge meeting in Yenagoa, the youth groups in a statement by their leaders, Birinemighan Dennis and Bekesuo Adigo, of NDPAG, frowned at “the rising plethora of sponsored campaigns on weekly basis on the streets of Yenagoa by the acting MD which are aimed at hoodwinking the Federal Government into confirming him against the act establishing the commission.”
While alleging that the commission under the watch of Prof. Nelson Brambaifa has not added value to the lives of Niger Delta, they further warned against such protests again due to the fact that none of the abandoned NDDC projects in Bayelsa State has been attended to since he assumed office, listing Akenfa Bridge, Okukutu water tank project and student hostel at Niger Delta University as few of such projects.
