A physically challenged young man in his thirties, Mr. Oghenerugba Okreghe aka ‘Abara Jesus’ from Unenurhie community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, who is highly and naturally endowed, has said that, disability doesn’t affect his abilities and talents.

This is as he called on the government to support him in his chosen career.

Mr. Rugba Okreghe who was crippled by a deadly sickness, which led his parents to spend money and time at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) seeking cure for their ailing child, to no avail, grew up to be a very brilliant student and highly talented young boy.

In a chat with our correspondent during a recent visit to Okreghe’s furniture workshop at Unenurhie town, the young man said, “As you can see, I’m disabled as a result of a deadly sickness which I can never explain. Yet, I always thank God for blessing me with a lot of talents and skills. I finished from Unenurhie Secondary School as an acclaimed artist. I have done so many artistic designs and paintings which you can’t even believe I did them.

“Actually, I wanted to further my education but my father died when I was still in primary school. He left all of us under the tutelage and care of my mother. My mother couldn’t bear the financial burden of a higher institution for me. This is why I couldn’t go to the university. Again, as you can see, this is my temporary furniture workshop. I’m a professional furniture maker. I can design or construct any piece of furniture ranging from set of chairs, tables, cabinet beds, dining tables and chairs and other pieces of furniture.”

Rugba Okreghe however solicited for financial assistance to enable him move to his permanent workshop and also to buy working tools for the job.

Hear him: “At the moment, I’m facing a lot of challenges in this my two jobs. First, I want to beg the Delta State government and good spirited individuals in the society to come to my aid. I need money to move to a permanent workshop and to also procure working tools for the two careers I have.

Secondly, I’m begging the president-general of Unenurhie community and our brothers and sisters in diaspora to also give me financial aid. The residents should also patronize me by giving me contracts and jobs in these my two chosen careers.

“As I speak, I have boys that are serving me as apprentices. I also want to call on our youths to learn these kinds of trades instead of roaming in the streets doing nothing. Education doesn’t stop one from acquiring a skill or to learn a trade.”

Mr. Oghenerugba Okreghe is yet to marry and raise his own family.
