Diri Urges Bayelsans to Be Wary of Fake ‘Political Preachers,’ Applauds Urhobo Community

By Amos Okioma, Yenagoa

Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, has reiterated his call on the people of the state to be wary of politicians “who use falsehood and propaganda to press for their selfish political gains at the expense of the common good of society.”

Governor Diri spoke on Thursday when the state leadership of Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Government House, Yenagoa.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, said such politicians do not mean well for the state and must be placed where they rightly belong in society.

He likened them to fake political shepherds who habitually abandon their flock after election, and regroup when another electoral season beckons.

Governor Diri commended the Urhobo community in the state for their peaceful disposition and continued support to the government.

According to the Bayelsa chief executive, his administration is not unmindful of the overwhelming support the Urhobos gave him and his deputy during and after the 2019 gubernatorial elections.

F5gnutHe also thanked the delegation for acknowledging and appreciating completed and ongoing infrastructural projects by the Prosperity Administration with the lean resources at its disposal.

Responding to the requests made by the group, ranging from appointment of its members to provision of a bus, Governor Diri promised that government would look into them with a view to addressing such within limits of available resources.

Earlier, the president of Urhobo Progressive Union, Bayelsa State Chapter, Chief Charles Oruru, thanked Governor Douye Diri for the capital projects executed by his administration, especially the concerted effort being put into the Sagbama-Ekeremor Road.

Chief Oruru, however, appealed to the governor to create an office of special adviser for the teeming number of Urhobos resident in the state and a bus to enhance their operations.

Also, the Okobaro 1 of Urhobo, in Bayelsa State, HRM Joshua Aweyu, said the Urhobo community would continue to identify with the Peoples Democratic Party and the Diri-led administration in Bayelsa.

The royal father, who prayed for the government and people of the state, promised to direct and guide their members in the 2023 elections to ensure continuity in the governance of the state.

Meanwhile, Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri has again challenged the church, particularly the clergy to be aboveboard in propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Governor Diri threw the challenge when the General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church, Prophet Hezekiah Oladeji, led a delegation comprising national and state executives of the Church Council to pay him a courtesy visit in Government House, Yenagoa.

Represented by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the governor insisted that until the morality of the church outweighs that of society, Christianity would not make the desired impact on the people.

Earlier, the general evangelist of Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, Prophet Hezekiah Oladeji, explained that the visit was part of activities lined up for the ongoing revival crusade in Yenagoa.

He expressed gratitude to the state government for supporting the work of God and offered prayers for sustainable peace, stability and prosperity of the state.
