Diri Swears-in 24 Commissioners

… Charges Them to be ‘Servant Leaders’

Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, has sworn-in 24 commissioners screened and confirmed by the state House of Assembly last week, urging them to be sensitive servant leaders.

Performing the swearing-in and assigning portfolios to the commissioners on Tuesday in Yenagoa, Governor Diri urged them to be innovative and creative to fashion favourable climate for generation of ideas in their various ministries.

The governor, who had spent six since his assumption of office as the governor, said the delay was due to COVID-19 pandemic which the administration inherited on its assumption.

He advised the new cabinet members to find new ways of approaching problems and reframe ideas to find solutions to problems.

He said: “You are assuming office in the extra-ordinary times, this inauguration ought to have come earlier than today, but this government took over on February 14, 2020 which coincided with the outbreak of COVID-19, we have been fighting the consequence of destructive impacts of the virus, that was why this exercise was prolonged.

“People’s expectations from you are high, with this inauguration, you are expected to hit the ground running immediately and put the necessary structures. Let’s join hands together for the common course of the people.

“You must be innovative and creative to fashion a favourable climate for the generation of ideas and findings new ways of approaching problems, reframing them and come up with inspiring solutions,” he said.

Those sworn – in and their respective portfolios are: Preye Broderick – Ministry of Special Duties (East); Esau Andrew – Ministry of Lands & Housing; Dr. Ibiere Jones – Ministry of  Mineral Resources; Thompson Amule – Ministry of Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development; Grace Ayakpo Ekiotenne – Ministry of Transport; Stanley Braboke – Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment; Moses Teibowei – Ministry of Works; Iselema Gbaranbiri – Ministry of Environment; David Alagoa – Ministry of Agriculture and Barr. Biriyai Dambo, SAN – Commissioner for Justice/ Attorney General.

Others include Dr. Iti Orugbani – Ministry of Culture and Tourism Development; Dr. Promise Ekio – Science, Communication and Technology; Otokito Federal – Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity; Faith Opene – Women Affairs and Social Development; Obosi Churson – Ministry of Special Duties (West); Ekisah Sinkumo – Ministry of Special Projects (Governor’s Office); Maxwell Ebibai – Ministry of Finance; Akpoebidei Alamieyeseigha – Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning; Rex Flint George – Ministry of Special Duties ( Central); Baraladei Daniel Igali – Ministry of Youth and Sports Development; Ebitei Tonyon – Ministry of Power; Dr. Pabara Newton Igwele – Ministry of Health; Hon.
