The first governor of old Rivers State, now Amanyanabo of Twon Brass, HE King Alfred Diete-Spiff, the chairman of the Rivers State council of Traditional Rulers, King Dr. Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, and former vice chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Prof. Simeon Achinewhu, are among personalities to grace this year’s United Nations International Day for Peace.
According to a release made available to our reporter by the National secretary general of the Universal Peace-Builders Association (UPA), Amb. Isaac George, each year the United Nations International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21st September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of Peace, both with and among all nations and peoples.
He said the theme for this year’s international day of Peace is ‘The Right to Peace-The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70,’ adding that the declaration recognizes the inherent dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human race.
George noted that “This year marks the 70th anniversary of that landmark document. The declaration states in article 3 ‘Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person. These elements build the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.’
“In Nigeria the Universal Peace-Builders Association /Council of Ambassadors for Peace & Unification will, as part of the UN day for Peace, hold a lecture titled ‘The Role of Traditional Rulers in Peace Building,’ which will highlight the essence of freedom, justice and Peace as building blocks of an ideal nation,” he said.
The event, which is to hold on Friday September 21, 2018, at the Nigerian Bar Association Auditorium, Port Harcourt, is to have the vice chancellor of the Rivers State University Prof. Blessing Chimezie Didia, deliver the main lecture, with HE King Alfred Diete-Spiff and King Dr. Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V as chief host and royal father of the day respectively.
According to George, UPA President, Prof. Simeon Achinewhu, will be on hand to receive ambassadors for peace, traditional rulers, clergy, top politicians, top business people, Nollywood stars among others.
