Against the rumour making the rounds that Unenurhie community and Uwheru kingdom, both in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State are in crisis over land boundary dispute, President-General of Unenurhie Community, Mr. Williams Ilayah has described the report as malicious and purportedly fabricated by mischief makers from both communities to cause crisis and break down of law and order.
Speaking to our reporter in reaction to the report, the Unenurhie PG advised members of the two communities and the general public to do away with such fake report and continue to live in peace as members of one family.
“Unenurhie community and Uwheru kingdom is never at war as being carried by some mischief makers everywhere. Unenurhie and Uwheru are neighbouring communities and we have been living together in peace since the time of our forebears. We have intermarried and closely related. There is virtually no Unenurhie person that is not related to Uwheru in one way or the other. It’s the same with the Uwheru people. There are many Uwheru people that are resident in our community. There are some that are doing farming works in every farming season in Unenurhie community. How can we really be at war with such a community?”
Speaking further, the Unenurhie PG said what actually happened was far from the story they are purportedly spreading everywhere.
Hear him: “Like what I said earlier, Unenurhie and Uwheru shared common boundaries which is naturally defined by river. Once we cross to the other side of the river, that’s Uwheru and once the Uwheru people cross to the opposite side too, that’s Unenurhie. And people from the two communities have been maintaining this natural boundaries to avoid crisis and enmity over the years. However, few days ago, some Uwheru boys crossed to our side to harvest our ponds. And our vigilante group got the information. They couldn’t arrest those boys before they got to the bush, but only succeeded to bring their pumping engines and cutlasses. The matter is all about theft and has since been reported to the Ughelli police station for proper investigation.”
However, all efforts to speak with the president-general of Uwheru kingdom to proved abortive as all phone calls made to his phone contacts were not reachable.
