The 2025 prayer day and cultural carnival, organised by Unenurhie community in Evwreni kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, has ended with a call on the state government to give the community the necessary support for them to grow and develop as a people.

In his address during the two-day event, celebrated on 25th and 26th March every year, the newly elected president-general of Unenurhie community, Mr. Williams Ilayah, thanked God for victory throughout the tortuous journey that led to the just concluded UCDU general elections.

Hear him: “I also want to thank my predecessor who just handed over power of leadership to me, Mr. Peter Maison, JP and all the leaders of the various arms of government in the community for their great support in the just concluded UCDU elections and this year Unenurhie Day celebration.

“In the same way, I want to appreciate the tireless efforts of the planning committee of this divine event ably led by the chairman, Rev. Can. Dr. Gentle Omohwo Imudje, JP and the secretary, Mr. James Okparikpu and other members of the planning committee. I want to specially thank the CAN in this our community for their prayers and support in this our event. Finally, I want to thank the president-general of Evwreni kingdom, Chief Kenneth Ukpebitere and our beloved monarch, HRM, Oghenekevwe Kumane, Eruvwedede 111, the Ovie of Evwreni kingdom for standing with us in all our challenges. And to everyone of you that’s here for this year’s celebration,” he said.

Elaborating on the theme of this year’s celebration, ‘The Glory of God In Our Land’, the guest speaker, Evang. George Isichei, a Warri-based evangelist spoke extensively, with numerous prophetic declarations and miracles following.

He concluded his message with prayers for the liberation of the community and for the glory of the community to continue to shine for the people to excel in their different careers and professions.

In his address after the message, the outgoing president-general, Mr. Peter Maison, who was overwhelmed with joy thanked God for organizing this year’s prayer day and cultural carnival in the community with huge success.

“I also want to thank God for sustaining the peace we have in this community for the six years period I was president-general of the community. We recorded so many remarkable achievements during my tenure as president-general. In the same way, we also faced a lot of challenges in the leadership.

“The most outrageous challenge was the one of the just concluded UCDU elections. As we all know, the entire community was boiling with fire because of some evil ones in the community. They are bent to take over the leadership of the community from us by force, but all Unenurhie people vehemently stood against this challenge. And here we are today, celebrating our Unenurhie Day of Prayers with victory and jubilation. Indeed, I’m mostly grateful to all of you for your love and prayers and for your boldness to reject bribes and financial inducements from those same cabals,” he said.

The Unenurhie prayer day and cultural carnival however ended with closing remarks presented by the chairman of the planning committee, Rev. Can. Dr. Gentle Omohwo Imudje, by calling on the Unenurhie people to be more united in love in order to bring the glory of God to the land. He again thanked the guest speaker and all the ministers of God that attended the event.

The grand finale of the event was spiced up with two different cultural dances presented by the women folk of the community and the bridal train of the community respectively.
