The people of Unenurhie community, in Evwreni kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State were in celebration recently as Mr. Peter Maison, won re-election as president-general of the community in a keenly contested election.
The election, which took place on Tuesday March 22, 2022 at the community town, in a peaceful atmosphere, saw Mr. Maison win with 54 votes, while Mr. Robinson Eke got 12 votes.
Others elected as members of the community’s national executive committee were Evang. Isaac Oriodofe (vice president-general), Comr. Lucky Chadiri (secretary-general), Prince Young Erhiurhoro (assistant secretary-general), Evang. James Ephron (treasurer), Mr. Sunny Akeni (financial secretary), Mr. Samuel Olotu (assistant financial secretary) and Mr. Jonathan Akenomah as publicity secretary.
The election, which saw the participation of community elders, traditional chiefs, women and youths, both at home and in diaspora was adjudged as one of the freest and fairest election that was ever conducted in the community since the past ten years.
The community, both young and old commended the stewardship and leadership prowess of the Peter Maison-led administration which they described as “loaded with lots of achievements.”
Our correspondent reports that after the presentation of certificates of return to the winners of the election by the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Williams Ilayah, assisted by his secretary, Pastor Emmanuel Omamomo and other members of the committee in the presence of accredited delegates, the new executive members were sworn in by the traditional ruler of the community, His Highness, Moses Inore, Usu 111, the Odion’Rode of Unenurhie community who was represented at the occasion by the Otota (spokesman) of the community, Mr. Joseph Bicycle and the Akpohor (deputy speaker) of the community, Dr. Johnson Abrucha.
In a vote of thanks after the swearing-in and inauguration, the newly elected president-general, Mr. Peter Maison, thanked community elders, traditional chiefs, women, youths and all the delegates that found him and his executive members worthy to lead the community for another term of three years.
He promised, on behalf of his executive body to do more and better than his first term in development and continuous growth in all sectors of the community and to also run the same open-door system of community leadership.
The Unenurhie community election was observed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of ‘A’ Division of the Ughelli Police Station, Prince Matthew Uba and Mr. Moses Akin from Evwreni kingdom and other community leaders from other neighbouring communities.
