Delta Monarch Remembered for Quality Leadership, 8 Years After ‘Peaceful Exit’

The Civic Center of Unenurhie community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State was jam-packed with dignitaries and guests recently as late His Royal Highness, Dr. Charles D. Ogodo, the past Odion’Rode of Unenurhie community, who was also Osu’Urhobo III of Lagos State, was remembered for his quality and selfless leadership eight years after he joined his ancestors.

The memorial event which brought together family members, community leaders and dignitaries from different parts of the country, extolled the leadership virtues of the late traditional ruler, with encomiums and tributes on him by several persons and groups.

Addressing guests and children of the late monarch during the colourful event, the chairman of the event, Special Venerable Most Senior Evang. (Hon.) Endurance Obotie, from Edo State, thanked the family of the late monarch and the leadership of Unenurhie community for finding such an important time to honour their departed hero and a selfless leader.

The chairman of the event however advised the children of the deceased to always emulate the leadership virtues of their late father and to also build on his trailblazing legacies.

In the same vein, the president-general of Unenurhie community, Mr. Peter Maison, and the Otota’Rode of Unenurhie community, Chief (Engr.) Frank Imudje advised the children of the late monarch to continue to build on the good name of their late father as the people of Unenurhie placed in good records the name of Charles D. Ogodo as a freedom fighter and a liberator in the history of the community.

Maison and Imudje however thanked the chairman of the event and the members of the Celestial Church of Christ, both in Edo and Delta states for their prayers and financial support to the children during the event.

In words of appreciation, the eldest son of the late monarch and also a spiritual leader in the Celestial Church of Christ, Prophet Prince Raphael Ogodo and the eldest daughter, Princess Mrs. Matilda Omerhi, on behalf of the other children appreciated those present at the event for their efforts to see to the success of the memorial anniversary.

They thanked the members of the Ogodo family and also the leaders of Unenurhie community and all Urhobo leaders in Lagos State for honouring the invitation to celebrate their late father, even after eight years of his passage. The children again made the promise to all that graced the occasion, especially the leaders of the community that, the memorial anniversary of their late father would now be celebrated annually to build on his legacies.

The event featured a memorial lecture delivered by a seasoned media practitioner, Young Erhiurhoro, on the theme: ‘Late Charles Ogodo and The Struggle of Unenurhie People For a Kingdom.’

The late His Royal Highness (HRH), Dr. Charles D. Ogodo, was a past Odion’Rode of Unenurhie community and also the Osu’Urhobo III of Lagos State.
