Delta: Many of Our People Yet to Register for PVCs ~ Ilayah Cries Out

By Young E. Freeborn, Warri

A renowned community leader and educationist, Mr. Williams Ilayah, has cried out that, many Unenurhie people in Evwreni Ward, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State are yet to register for the permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) presently ongoing across the country.

The retired principal made this known recently in a media chat with our correspondent at his residence in Unenurhie community.

“As you can see, many of our people here are yet to register in the ongoing voters’ registration by the INEC. This is equal to denying the people their political and voting rights in a democratic country as ours.

“As it is, we want to plead with INEC to release some of her officials and machines to us here to do the full registration. For the few weeks that are remaining, they should be stationed here to enable the people register fully. We must know that in a village setting like this, the numbers of illiterates and ignorant are many and it will be very difficult for such people to register if they are not well guided by the elites.

“This is the reason why I said, INEC officials and machines should be fully stationed here to do the job effectively. Nobody should be shortchanged in this electoral exercise. Unenurhie people are citizens of this country. We are not second class citizens and shouldn’t be treated as such.”

Mr. Ilayah further called on the political leaders of Evwreni Ward in the persons of the founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, and the former executive director, Projects (EDP) in the NDDC, Chief Engr. Samuel Adjogbe, to provide the necessary support for the voters’ registration in order to cover the entire electoral ward.

“Let me at this time call on our political leaders in this Evwreni Ward to come to our aid in this ongoing voter’s registration. We want to call on Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and Chief Engr. Samuel Adjogbe to speak to INEC on how our people are being shortchanged in this exercise. They are respected APC leaders, both at the state and at the federal levels. Their voices matter a lot in such situations.

“Unenurhie case is a special case in this Evwreni Ward because this is how we are being marginalized and shortchanged in every national exercise like voter’s registration and census. Our population is gradually being reduced to infinitesimal size based on political oppression and corrupt practices of some evil leaders in this electoral ward. We are therefore calling on the government to come to our aid now in this voter’s registration to carry Unenurhie people along and correct such political anomalies.”
