By Young E. Freeborn, Warri

In a bid to put a stop to oil theft and pipeline vandalism in Nigeria and other parts of the world, a media practitioner from Delta State after years of “tortuous research work” has been able to come out with a discovery tagged, ‘Aerial/Magnetic Drilling of Oil/Gas in Nigeria’.

The research work which was a full documented paper was aimed at solving problems surrounding the drilling of oil and gas in the Niger Delta region over the years.

In an interview with newsmen after the official presentation of the research work, the journalist who gave his name as Young Erhiurhoro, narrated his ordeals and challenges during the course of the research.

He said: “My name is Young Erhiurhoro. I’m from Uwheru kingdom and Unenurhie community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. At the moment, I’m a media practitioner. I report with the print and online media in different media companies.

“Actually, I didn’t read a course at the higher institution to be employed as a journalist. I’m only doing the work as a result of the passion I have for it. It gives joy to read and write at my leisure time. I have written so many constructive articles on different subjects and titles and also published two literary books at the moment.

“I read Agricultural Science at the College of Education, Warri, Delta State. Initially, from my secondary school days, I loved to read Law in the university. This I was never permitted as a result of the poor background of my parents. Even the NCE I did, I did under the weekend programme of the school. This to enable me struggle during the week days to get money to service the programme. I have to do sort of menial jobs in order to get money. This was how I got my NCE certificate.”

Mr. Young said, “Immediately I finished the NCE programme around 2006, with my academic experience on soil and water, I decided to embark on this research project on my own to solve the incessant problem of oil theft and pipeline vandalism that is troubling the entire country especially those of us in the Niger Delta region. It really took me time to conclude this research project because it involved travelling a lot.

“It has since been completed. But as it’s always the case with Nigeria, the research work as I’m talking to you now has not seen the light of the day. It has not been published. I was directed by some persons to submit it to different agencies in the oil sector, but they keep telling me that, it should be registered first, with the Federal Government and also with international oil bodies before they can look at it. And as it’s, I have nobody to help me out. This is how the research work became dead while alive.”

The young researcher cum journalist however called on the Federal Government through the NDDC and interested oil companies to come to his aid as he said, the research work would solve out so many problems in the oil and gas industry.

He also called on interested individuals that were well placed in the seat of power to stretch their helping hands towards him to enable this research work see the light of the day as is the case and practice in advanced countries across the world.
