As the Delta State 2024 local council elections draw closer, leaders and members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Unenurhie community, Evwreni Ward (08), in Ughelli North Local Government Area have declared their support for Rtn. Fidelis Adjogbe, a frontline aspirant for the LGA’s chairmanship position.
Rising from a meeting at the Unenurhie Event Centre, presided over by the vice chairman of Evwreni Ward PDP, Mr. Moses Ovwighose, party leaders from the community pledged to vigorously canvass support for the Ughelli North chairmanship aspirant and the party, aimed at bringing the governor’s MORE developments to the entire local government area.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, party members from Unenurhie community also agreed that, it was their turn, “in this DSIEC 2024,” to produce the councilor to represent the Evwreni Ward in the Ughelli North legislative council, as they lamented that the Evwreni people “have denied them several of councilorship opportunities before now.”
Speaking to our correspondent after the meeting, Mr. Moses Ovwighose who presided over the meeting said, “This is the Unenurhie axis of the Evwreni Ward PDP. We called this meeting to put certain things right. We are in a democratic government where the views of everybody, even those we call the minorities are respected. You can’t be an autocratic leader and at every meeting, you want to lord all your personal decisions over every member of the party from the ward. We outrightly reject that kind of leadership.
“This is why we called this meeting to pledge our total support for our own, Rtn. Fidelis Adjogbe for the Ughelli North chairmanship position. He’s our choice here in Unenurhie community. We are solidly behind his vision and mission.”
Also, Hon. Henry Aluya and Hon. Patrick Burutu, two other party leaders spoke extensively on the “political marginalization meted on the Unenurhie people since 1999 till date.”
Hear them: “The most marginalized and oppressed group of people in this new political dispensation that began in 1999 in this country are the Unenurhie people. We are in the same electoral ward with the Evwreni people. But we have nothing to show since the electoral ward was created from the former Uwheru Ward till date.
“They have denied us, including me several opportunities to become the councilor of the ward. Yet, they always sing everywhere that Evwreni and Unenurhie are one and are inseparable. Therefore, to prove to us that we are truly one and also belong to one electoral ward, we have decided and agreed in this meeting that this year, councilor must come from Unenurhie community. Except they will tell the Nigerian government and the world that, we are not part of the electoral ward again.”
Others that attended the Unenurhie PDP meeting were Mr. Friday Diamond, Ejoke Commission, Young Erhiurhoro, James Ephron, Shedrack Imoni, Omavuaye Wilfred and many other youths.
