Delta Community to Celebrate Ohworhu Festival Sept 14

The popular and renowned annual Ohworhu masquerade festival of the Unenurhie people in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State is billed to hold on September 14, 2022 at the community’s dancing arena.

The festival is to feature different cultural activities such as escorting the bride, cultural dances by men and women, visitation to friends and loved ones in the community and finally, the masquerade dance. 

Making the announcement recently at the residence of the Ohworhu chief priest who also doubled as the oldest man of Unenurhie community, Olorogun Pa. Samson Abrucha, the spokesman of the Inugbedjor traditional chiefs, Olorogun Johnson Efedudu said, “On behalf of the Ohworhu chief priest and the Inugbedjor traditional chiefs, I hereby announce to Unenurhie sons and daughters and the members of the general public that, the renowned and popular Ohworhu cultural festival will begin on the 12th of September with the buying of foodstuff, clothes and other materials in our market for the celebration of the festival.

“On the 13th is watch night celebration which is the day set aside mainly for the escorting brides to their husbands, while the masquerade dance which is the grand finale of the festival is scheduled to hold on September 14th at our dancing arena.

“We therefore invite all the members of the community, both at home and in the diaspora and the members of the general public especially cultural enthusiasts to join us celebrate this year’s Ohworhu cultural festival,” he said.

They also called on the state government and Urhobo political leaders to catch a glimpse of the cultural festival as it usually lasts for fourteen days, featuring various cultural activities, without the community engaging in farming activities during the period.
