Delta Community Thrown into Mourning as Three Die in Auto Accident

Unenurhie community in Evwreni kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State was thrown into mourning on January 18, 2025 as three young secondary school leavers, one male and two females died in a ghastly motor accident along the Ughelli/Patani federal highway.

Road users and community people who rushed to the scene immediately the news filtered into the community said the accident happened as a result of a truck that broke down near the Unenurhie/Uwheru bridge, and was left parked on the middle of the road.

Those that spoke to our correspondent the following morning in the community said, the accident victims were riding a motorcycle (locally known as Lady’s bike) to the nearby community, Uwheru, while it was already late in the night.

Unknown to him that there was a faulty vehicle parked in the middle of the road, and with no indicators or road signs placed by the truck driver to warn road users, the motorcycle rider ran into the stationary truck.

The accident victims whose names were given as Nicholas Atori (m), Glory Sunday (f) and Ufuoma James (f) have been buried by their family members as the truck driver and owner were no where to be found, our correspondent.

However, all efforts to reach the DPO, Ughelli Police Station, the Road Safety officers and the president-general of Unenurhie community for comments proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
