A young All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart in Delta State, who was a strong advocate of the ‘Never too Young to Run,’ Mr. Friday Diamond, popularly called ‘Ogbo’ by his political fans has declared his interest to run for the Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency seat during the 2023 general elections.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with our correspondent at his home town, Unenurhie community, Evwreni kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State recently, Diamond said, “I’m a strong advocate and supporter of the ‘Never too Young to Run’ act of the Federal Government.
“I’m also a full and active member of the APC in Delta State since it was formed. Even with the Electoral Act and the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, I’m qualified to contest for any elective position in the country or in my state. Again, I want to break with this notion and saying by our old politicians that, the youths are the leaders of tomorrow.
“No, from this moment, we are the leaders of today and not tomorrow. Tomorrow has no end and that’s why we are being denied our rights to contest for any position because we are too young to contest. This is why they have been using us as thugs and box snatchers in every election. This is why they have continued to give us peanuts as youth empowerment. This is why they have refused to create job opportunities for us in this country. Enough is enough of all these insults and humiliations on us. Therefore, against this background, I came to my community today to officially announce to my people and all my political fans that I’m fully into the House of Representatives race in Delta State to represent our federal constituency come 2023 general elections under the APC platform.”
Mr. Diamond who was a former youth chairman in his community said, “As I’m speaking to you right now, all my political fans and community leaders have already concluded plans to contribute the money to buy the expression of interest nomination form for me, just few days from now at Abuja. And I want to thank them for the support and the proactive initiative.
“In the same way too, I want to thank my political fathers and mentors in the persons of Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, founding father of Delta APC and Chief Dr. Samuel Adjogbe, the immediate past EDP of the NDDC and also a chieftain of APC. Don’t forget the wise saying that, every wise hunter must rest on a big tree before shooting a huge animal in the forest. These people I mentioned are my role models and mentors in the political arena. They are always there for me at every time I call on them. There are other political leaders of importance in the federal constituency which I’m begging to also support me. And also to the youths of the constituency, this is their own political race. They should stand by me to pursue this dream to a logical end with victory and happiness,” he said.
