Delegates Election: Bayelsa Commissioner Escapes Mob Attack

There was a mild drama at the precinct of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bayelsa State secretariat as the state commissioner for Education, Robinson Obuebite, narrowly escaped mob action by the supporters of a yet-to-be ascertained aspirant for the November 16 governorship election.

Our correspondent reports that a mammoth crowd gathered at the state PDD Secretariat for the ad hoc delegate elections chaired by the Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi.

According to an eyewitness, Umahi was inside sorting out papers with the PDP officials when the state commissioner for Education, Robinson Obuebite, moved towards the campaign of office of Timi Alaibe and was confronted by the Alaibe supporters, who protested against some alleged anomalies.

The commissioner was reportedly rescued by the security personnel that were stationed at the gate and outside the secretariat.

Thereafter, there were sporadic shootings and dynamite explosion which led many people to scamper for safety.

The pandemonium and shooting led the Ebonyi state governor and his team to remain inside for hours before departing the venue.

The campaign offices of Chief Timi Alaibe and that of Rt Hon Fred Agbedi are situated within the vicinity of the PDP secretariat, but the protesters sang songs in favour of Timi Alaibe who is being allegedly sidelined in the PDP Ad-hoc delegate elections.
