The Commissioner of Police Rivers State Command Zaki Ahmed has urged the public especially hononary members of the Police Officer’s Mess to criticize him where he has made mistakes. He said as a human being, that he was bound to make mistakes and therefore should be told when such mistakes are made in order to take corrections.
CP Ahmed made these assertions while speaking at a reception organized in his honour by the honorary members of the Police Officers Mess, Rivers State Command in Port Harcourt.
He emphasized that as human beings it was not possible to know everything and urged the public to feel free to point out things that he did that were done wrongly. He said it is by so doing that the society will effectively be policed and solicited for the cooperation of the public to fight crime and criminality in the state effectively.
While commending the honorary members of the Police Officers Mess for the honour done him, he said he was overwhelmed by the gesture and used the opportunity to call on traditional rulers and leaders of the various communities to partner with the Police in order to fight crime in our various communities. He said community policing is a very vital organ of effective Clime prevention in any society and said it was for this reason that the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) was set up in Nigeria.
The Police boss however maintained that Rivers State Police Command under his leadership will continue to give all the necessary cooperation to individual and groups in order to bring about lasting peace in the state.
Chairman of the occasion His Royal Majesty, King Sir S. Wokoma who is also the Nyewe-Eli (paramount ruler of Rumuokwusi Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state described CP Zaki Ahmed as a fine gentleman and professional police officer who has brought his wealth of experience to bear in the policing of the state which was hitherto referred to as the hot bed of crime and political unrest by political jobbers during elections.
He said as traditional ruler that he will continue to partner with the police were necessary in ensuring that peace is enthroned in our various communities.
President of the Police Officer Mess Rivers State Command Mr. Jeffrey Anugwo thanked all those who honoured their invitation to the event in spite of their tight schedule and used the opportunity to thank the CP for honouring their invitation.
