An All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the Ughelli North Constituency 1 seat in the Delta State House of Assembly, in the 2019 general elections, Barr Matthew Omonade, recently gave financial support to the aged in his constituency as palliative over the ravaging coronavirus epidemic in Nigeria.
Speaking at Unenurhie community town hall in Evwreni Ward 08, the legal practitioner, who is also a personal aide to the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, sensitized the aged that gathered at the town hall on how to avoid contacting the virus.
Hear him: “Our purpose of coming here today is to let our fathers and mothers know about the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus and how to avoid it. You must always wash your hands with soap and water at every time of the day. Secondly, avoid close or body contact with people. Always give a distance to any person coughing or sneezing.
“Few days from today, the Delta state government would close down markets and restrict movements and public gatherings. Therefore, I decided to bring this little token to our old people to buy little food stuff in the house to help them in the period. It’s small but I beg you to accept it with good heart as a benevolence act,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the Evwreni Ward recipients, Unenurhie community youth chairman, Mr. Friday Diamond, who is also an active member of the APC in Evwreni Ward and Mr. Morrison Edafe, APC Ughelli North executive member from Evwreni Ward thanked Barr Matthew Omonade for his benevolence to his constituents, even though he was not given a recognized government position in the present administration.
The duo however solicited for the support of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and that of Hon. Rev. Francis Waive, in the National Assembly to also give full financial support to their constituents as the continuous spreading of the coronavirus was already causing hardship amongst the poor and less privileged ones in both the senatorial district and the federal constituency.
They also charged the governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, to help move one of the coronavirus test kit centres to Delta State to make it closer to the people in order for them to have easy access to run the test.
Over one hundred aged people where given the financial support across the Ughelli North Constituency 1 which includes Orogun Ward 1 & 2, Agbarha Ward, Ogor Ward and Evwreni Ward by Barr Matthew Omonade.
