… ‘Blasts’ Detractors
A sociopolitical group, Niger Delta Action Network (NDAN), Andoni Chapter, has commended the senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, Senator Barry Mpigi, for donating handsomely to the people of his constituency on the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Niger Delta Action Network in a joint statement by its chairman in Andoni, Chief Gogo Ada Rufus Mbere and Secretary, Reuben Okwa, observed that the lawmaker is “indeed a leading light amongst his people,” noting that his cash donations will go a long way in cushioning the effects of the dreaded disease.
NDAN lauded Senator Mpigi’s benevolence, pointing out that the lawmaker’s “awesome gesture by putting smiles on the faces of constituents was first of its kind in Rivers State.
The statement reads in part, “As a pressure group preoccupied with ensuring that leaders in the Niger Delta take seriously the yearnings and aspirations of their people, we commendably observe the prompt donations by the lawmaker representing Rivers Southeast Senatorial District, Senator Barry Mpigi, to his constituents to cushion the impact of COVID-19 lockdown. We wish to note that his donation was the first in the state, which proved to be a starting point for all the local government areas in the Rivers Southeast Senatorial District to reach out to the local populace.”
The group pledged to support the good ideals of the political masterpiece whose plans to reach out to other strata of the society who have been greatly affected by the lockdown is welcomed.
NDAN however warned detractors and rumour mongers to desist forthwith from casting aspersions on the senator, stressing that the faceless people are not comfortable with the towering profile of the lawmaker.
It further called on the authors of falsehood to join hands with the senator to fast track development in the area, instead of tarnishing his reputation.
“We however observed with dismay the calculated attempts by rumour mongers to ruin the hard earned reputed reputation of the lawmaker by linking the index case of COVID-19 in Rivers State to him. We view this as distraction to the coordinated fight against the virus in the state. We beg to ask, how come the Senator has repeatedly tested negative for coronavirus.
Coronavirus is a threat to humanity and people are expected to know the times we are living and desist from making conjectures” the statement added.
