Correspondents’ Chapel Lauds Members on NUJ Awards

…. Awards Well Deserved, Honour to Chapel ~ Okonkwo

Members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State have felicitated with five of their colleagues who received various categories of awards from the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Rivers State Council at the just concluded 2024 Press Week and Awards Night ceremony.

The awardees include Elder Ignatius Chukwu, Regional Manager (South South), BusinessDay Newspaper, who bagged a Lifetime Achievement Award; Clarice Azuatalam, of Verbatim Magazine and Ann Godwin, Bureau Chief (South South) of The Guardian Newspaper, who received Special Recognition Awards; Anayo Onukwugha, Rivers State Correspondent of Leadership Newspaper and Stephen Momoh, of TVC, who were honoured with Reporters Awards.

Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Amaechi Okonkwo, in a release made available to our correspondent, said the chapel “congratulates and rejoices with them on their well deserved awards, which for each and everyone of them is a fitting recognition of their contributions to the growth of the journalism profession and the peace, unity and development of society.

“The chapel is proud of you for the awards and urge you to be inspired by the recognition to continue to work harder in upholding the tenets of the journalism profession and the overall benefits and development of the society,” he said.

Okonkwo further congratulated the awardees for making the chapel proud.

In a related development, the Energy Maritime Reporters (EMR) has sent a special message of congratulations to the regional manager (South South) of BusinessDay Newspaper, Elder Ignatius Chukwu, on the conferment of the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ on him by the NUJ.

In a letter signed by EMR chairman, Martins Giadom, and secretary, Ayo Odungweru, the group said that, “To say that the award is ‘well deserved’ would be an understatement.

“For us at EMR, it speaks to your years, even decades, of mentorship and leadership of journalists within your region of service.

“Your call for dignity and professionalism among journalists, and particularly, guide and leadership for journalists specialising in your area of focus (Business and Maritime), will remain indelible in the annals of the NUJ and the EMR as a body.

“We congratulate you once again, and wish you many more years of service to humanity and the journalism profession,” Giadom and Odungweru said.
