As social vices such as examination malpractices, cultism and hooliganism continue to ravaged some secondary schools in the State, the President of Divine Elects Sapphires Club, Mr. Samson Oboro has tasked students to emulate Jesus Christ.
Speaking to students of Community Secondary School Nkpolu-Oroworukwo in Port Harcourt, Mr. Oboro explained that they were in the school to support the students educationally ahead of their Annual General Meeting AGM.
He maintained that it was imperative to assist the students through educational support but most importantly their attitude is far too important as students. The President further explained that a good name is better than silver and gold.
“We like you to be employers of labour when you grow and it starts now, ” he said.
He tasked them to emulate the name Jesus which is the greatest name on earth. “In life if you stand on the truth people will envy you and evil seems to be on the increase among young people like get rich quick syndrome,” he admonished.
He stated that foundational doctrine is key in life especially as riches are just temporal but a good name is a legacy, saying that the students should face their studies seriously noting that education is not a scam but a door to many successes.
Earlier, the General Secretary of the organisation, Mazi Nkem Ijoma said the club as a christian philanthropic organisation is visiting the school which is very strategic as a precursor to their AGM meeting noting that they also visit motherless babies homes, the home of the elderly, and also extends hands of fellowship to the less privilege in the society in academic schorlaship and care for both their physical and spiritual needs of the recipients.
In her Remarks, the Principal of the school, Dr. Mrs. Patience Nwachukwu expressed gratitude to the NGO for remembering them.
She said the gift items such as books, pens and cash donation to some brilliant students will spur them to do more, saying that some of the students are on self sponsorship due to their economic background, while calling on other organizations to emulate Divine Elects Sapphires Club by supporting the school.
The Senior Perfect of the school, Emmanuel Solomon-Jaja gave the vote of thanks and prayed for the Club.
Highlight of the event was cultural entertainment by the students and donations of 2000 writing materials and cash gifts to some exceptional students.
Other member of the club on the team is Director of Finance, George Chikwere.
