Celia Otubu Lauds Wike, PDP Leadership on ‘Open Primaries’

House of Representatives hopeful for Ikwerre/Emohua federal constituency, Chief Celia Otubu, has described the Rivers State governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as “sagacious, capable and forward-thinking.”

Her comments came on the heels of the governor and party leadership’s decision to allow a level playing for all aspirants on the party’s platform.

Inaugurating the media team for the Celia Otubu Campaign Organisation (COCO), hours after she had submitted her nomination form at the party state secretariat in Port Harcourt on Monday, Otubu said only open primaries can deliver victory for the party in the coming elections.

“In their wisdom, our energetically-led National Executive Committee and our committed National Working Committee have clearly advocated open primaries which will allow the success of the most popular candidates, who would thereafter be capable of winning the general election.

“A similarly clear and encouraging directive has also been declared by our forward-thinking party leader, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike.

“This is all to ensure that whilst widely unpopular candidates within the Rivers State APC continuously squabble, the general electorate will happily vote them out of office next year, in favour of popular candidates offered by the PDP.”

She frowned at alleged attempts by some individuals within the party to disenfranchise party members who are aspiring for one office or the other.

She drew attention to a seeming attempt by the chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Mr Samuel Nwanosike, to impose a candidate on the people of Ikwerre and Emohua local government areas, against the directive by the party and Gov Wike, describing it as unfair to the federal constituency.

Otubu, who is on a rescue mission to ensure a better representation for her constituents in the National Assembly, said past representatives had kept the people in the dark after voting them into power.

She promised to build an entrepreneurial collage for the people of his constituents when elected in to power, adding that the choice of building such a college was born out of the high level of unemployment among graduates.

She maintained that apart from the unemployed being direct beneficiaries, women will not be left out, adding that the college when fully operational will also train women in their various field of responsibilities.

The London-trained legal practitioner also said that if given opportunity to be at the green chamber of the national assembly, her constituents will have nothing to worry about as she will use her legal experience in sponsoring bills that will not only impact on the lives of the people but that will usher in the expected development into the constituency.
