President Muhammadu Buhari has sought Senate’s confirmation of the appointment of Dr. Pius Odubu as the chairman for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The President also sought the confirmation of Bernard Okumagba (Delta) as managing director, Engr. Otobong Ndem (Akwa-Ibom) as executive director, Projects, Maxwell Okoh (Bayelsa) as executive director, Finance & Administration, and twelve others as state representatives of the commission.
This was contained in a letter sent to the Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, by the President and was read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday. He appealed to lawmakers to give necessary support that would ensure smooth screening and confirmation of the nominees.
The Senate therefore directed its committee on NDDC to handle the issue and report back in one week time.
Our correspondent reports that in a similar letter read by the Senate president, President Buhari also requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of three resident electoral commissioners (RECs). The Senate also referred the President’s request to its committee on INEC, for it to report back in a week’s time.
