The Chairman of Brass Local Government Area, Hon. Lucky Febo has condemned the sporadic shooting in Hununu community, Akassa, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by the military, describing it as “unacceptable and potentially catastrophic”.
The incident, our correspondent gathered, has instilled widespread panic and fear among the residents of Hununu community, with reports of indiscriminate shooting and harassment of innocent civilians.
The chairman expressed deep concern over the incident, insisting that such actions could lead to the loss of innocent lives, further destabilize the peace in the area, and undermine the trust between the military and the local community.
He therefore urged the military to adopt more civic and professional methods in their investigations, emphasizing the need to respect human rights, follow due process, and avoid causing harm to innocent citizens.
As the chief security officer of the council, Hon. Febo also appealed to the residents of Hununu community to remain calm and peaceful and law abiding, assuring them that the local government council is working to ensure their safety and well-being.
