As part of efforts at improving the health situation of indigent citizens in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, who lack the funds to cater for their health issues, Borotone Audiology, in partnership with the Niger-Delta Care Outreach, has provided free medical tests and treatment for people in the region.

This year’s event was hosted by Ugbuwangwe Community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State on December 5, 2023, at the community town hall.

The support came in form of hearing and sight solutions, which included free hearing aids and glasses, as well as tests and treatment.

Dr Aruegodore Oyiborhoro, clinical audiologist and coordinator of the programme said, “We are doing the little which we can to help our communities. Treating the disorders of hearing or eye sightedness can be difficult and expensive. Economically disadvantaged individuals in our communities are unable to afford the high cost of treatment, especially those requiring hearing aids”.

Our correspondent said over a hundred people, benefitted from the scheme, mostly the aged and school children. The beneficiaries were full of smiles and thanked the doctors for their benevolent services.

The most senior chief of the community, Olare-Aja, Chief Yowunren, who was also present, commended the initiative and expressed gratitude for the choice of his community as host of this year’s programme.

The scheme initiated in 2008, has held regularly in different parts of the Niger-Delta region. Many communities in Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states have hosted the scheme at different times.
