Following the recent declaration of Biafra Customary Government by the former leader of Niger Delta Salvation Force, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, senior special assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Okowa of Delta State, Comrade Daniel Ezikiel Pere, has again cautioned Asari Dokubo to tread with caution, declaring that: “We are not Biafra. No one can drag us to Biafra”
Comrade Ezikiel, a front line Niger Delta minority rights activist and a product of the Ijaw struggle, who made the remark when he paid a courtesy visit to the chairman of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Abuja and the northern region, Diplomat Comrade Adams Ogomugo Marbo, in his office at the Adaka Boro block in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja on Monday, advised Asari Dokubo to desist from his efforts to submerge Ijaws under Biafra.
The SSA on Security Matters to the Delta State governor recalled how he was arrested four times by security agents, adding that on one occasion he spent two years in DSS detection facility because of Ijaw struggle. He maintained that the Ijaws have come of age and would not allow any person or group of persons to drag the Ijaw nation into Biafra Customary Government for selfish reasons.
Comrade Ezikiel called on Ijaw youths to think of evolving a paradigm shift in their approach to the agitations for economic emancipation, noting that: “We cannot continue to do things the same way over the years and expect a different result,” just as he reiterated the need for proper engagement with the political leadership at all levels of government and multinational corporations on the foundational issues that have caused the agitations in the Niger Delta region through exploring the right channels of engagements with the powers that be.
He pledged to work with the IYC Abuja and northern zone in their activities to ensure that the Ijaws in the northern part of Nigeria “live in harmony with our brothers and sisters from the north.”
In his remark, chairman, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Abuja and Northern zone chapter, Comrade Adams thanked the SSA on security for finding time to visit the Abuja Council, adding that the leadership of the northern zone of IYC would like to pay a solidarity visit to High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo in Delta State and appealed to the SSA to facilitate the visit.
While commending the SSA on his modest achievements since assuming office, Diplomat Adams also thanked High Chief Tompolo for his interest in Ijaw nation, describing the SSA as a true reflection of High Chief Tompolo in his leadership style and philosophy of life, adding that IYC Northern zone is out to protect Ijaw interest, while declaring that: “We are not part of Biafra.”
It will be recalled that Uche Mefor, head of information and communications in the purported Biafra Customary Government, recently named Aba, Abakiliki, Anang, Awka, Calabar, Degema, Eket, Enugu, Nsuka, Ogoja, Oji River, Okigwe, Onitsha, Opobo, Orlu, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Umuahia, Uyo and Yenegoa as provinces under the purported Biafra Customary Government being canvassed by Asari Dokubo.
