Bayelsa Queens FC on Monday 7th October, 2024 spanked Brave Heart Ladies of Edo 6-0 in the first Group B game of their Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament.
The game played at the University of Benin Sports Stadium saw Bayelsa Queens dominating the game from the blast of the whistle.
Peace Abbey put Bayelsa Queens in front in the 17th minute. After the goal the Prosperity Girls pressed for more goals and it was Peace Abbey again that scored the second goal in the 23rd minute of play, Dooshima Tarnum was on target to give the Prosperity Girls a 3 goal lead in the 30th minute while Peace Abbey scored her hat-trick at the stroke of half time as the first half ended four-nil in favour of the Yenagoa based team.
In the second stanza, Bayelsa Queens scored two goals in the space of 5 min as Mercy Omokwo netted in the 54 and 59 minutes to give Bayelsa Queens a comfortable six-nil victory.
With the second goal, Brave Heart Ladies came out pressing to get a goal, but the defense of Bayelsa Queens FC thwarted their efforts and Linda Jiwuaku goalkeeper of Bayelsa Queens made a brilliant save in the second half.
Technical Adviser Bayelsa Queens, Whyte Ogbonda, after the game said it is still work in progress that he hopes to get a more formidable team before the season starts.
“I am very impressed with my players today and for the game against Naija Ratels tomorrow, we are going to take another approach to win the game”, Whyte said.
“We are here at the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament to take the trophy back to Yenagoa, and all matches will be taken seriously like a cup final”, Coach Whyte Ogbonda added.
Bayelsa Queens will on Tuesday take on Naija Ratels in their second Group B game, before taking on Espoir FC of Benin Republic on Thursday.
