The Director of Sports in the Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi, has praised the late football administrator, Hon. Anthony Akpoebi Ogola, popularly known as ‘Tony Ogola (Baba T)’ in sports circles.
Sir Braveman said that since he encountered the late Ogola in the year 2003 in grassroots soccer engagements in the state, he noticed him as somebody that had the capacity and capability to turn negative situations to his side’s positive advantage.
The sports director, who also stood in for the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Baraladei Daniel Igali, made this known during the brief but solemn funeral rite for late Anthony Akpoebi Ogola, that took place at the multipurpose hall of the Sampson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, on Saturday June 8, 2024.
In his tribute, chairman of the state-owned Bayelsa United FC, Ebiki Timi Timi, described the late Ogola as somebody that was not after materialism, but for the good of all that came his way.
The late Tony Ogola was the longest serving chairman of Bayelsa United FC since the club was established in the year 1998. He was also one-time general manager of now defunct Ocean Boys FC of Brass, chairman of now defunct Divine Warriors FC of Yenagoa, and Hensard FC of Toru Orua, in Sagbama L.G.A. of Bayelsa State.
He was also onetime chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area. He is survived by 2 wives, 9 children and a grand child.
He hailed from Indiamazi quarters of Sagbama town in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The late Ogola died at the age of 57 years.
