Bayelsa State Government has assured women of the state that it would sustain and expand the scope of its subsisting economic empowerment programmes to enhance their general well-being.

The state’s deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, stated this on Thursday when a delegation of a group known as Ekeremor Grassroots Prosperity Women Forum visited him at the Government House, Yenagoa.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo, in a statement by his senior special assistant on Media, Mr Doubara Atasi, acknowledged the pivotal role women play in societal development, stressing that the Governor Douye Diri-led administration would continue to carry them along in its scheme of things.

The deputy governor, commended the group for complementing the present administration efforts by embarking on self development programmes such as skills acquisition in Ekeremor Local Government Area.

Describing the move as quite thoughtful and self reliant, Senator Ewhrudjakpo who spoke in Ijaw, promised that government would support them to take the training programme to more communities in the area.

Speaking on some of the milestones recorded by the Prosperity Administration, such as the senatorial road to Ekeremor, security and the monthly N200,000 economic empowerment for women in the state, Senator Ewhrudjakpo noted that the November 11 Election was a choice between light and darkness.

He, therefore, called on all well-meaning people in Ekeremor and the entire state to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which represents light and purposeful development in the state.

Underscoring the benefits of continuity in government within constitutionally prescribed timeframe, Senator Ewhrudjakpo equally urged the people to be firm in protecting their votes to enable the current government continue its good works beyond February next year.

Earlier in their separate remarks, the president of the Ekeremor Grassroots Prosperity Women Forum, Mrs. Matu Komuko, and the secretary, Mrs. Preye Joy Oyafegha, said their visit was to inform the deputy governor of their activities and programmes in various communities, promoting the PDP-led administration in the state.

Mrs. Matu Komuko, who pointed out that the forum had used their resources to train women from Ekeremor to acquire skills in soap and perfume-making, as well as insecticide production, appealed for support from government to sustain and extend the training to cover all communities in the Ekeremor LGA.
