Bayelsa Will Implement Minimum Wage ~ Dickson

The Bayelsa State government says it would not hesitate to implement the 30, 000 minimum wage once President Muhammad Buhari signs the bill, as the state has been labour-friendly and continues to sustain the existing cordial relationship.

The Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson who was represented by the chief of staff, Rt Hon Talford Ogolo stated this when he was presented with a letter of protest over the 30, 000 minimum wage by the organized labour at Government House, Yenagoa.
According to him, the state government is committed to labour matters, adding that the state government has had excellent and robust relationship with labour, assuring that as soon as the bill before National Assembly was signed by president, the state government will implement it in the state.

He commended the organized labour for a peaceful protest and implored them to sustain the existing cordial relationship.

Earlier, the state chairman of NLC, Comrade John Ndiomu said the new minimum wage will determine the electoral preference of workers during the forthcoming general elections and decried the unnecessary delay in transmitting of the tripartite Committee recommendation on the review of the minimum wage to the National Assembly by the president.

He said the workers were committed and will support any candidate whose policies are aimed at improving the welfare of workers and that only the new minimum wage would determine the electoral preference at the pools.” We are going to say No to candidates who opposed to payment of 30,000 minimum wage,” he said.

On his part, the TUC chairman in Bayelsa State, Comrade Tari Dounana has described the new minimum wage as an issue that must be supported and implemented for the workers welfare.

Also in attendance was the Comrade Ben Nnabue, the national president of National Union of Air Transport Employers.
