Bayelsa Guber: Group Urges Briyai to Declare

As the Bayelsa State Guber election draws near, a group, known as the Bayelsa Grassroot Development Initiative (BGDI), has called upon “a very important personality in the state,” Dr Frankland Oyeins Briyai, to join the race.

According to the coordinator of the body, Prof Emiomukumor Augustine, BGDI sees Briyai as the new hope for 2019, and have found him worthy to serve the state as governor and to restore lost hope.

They therefore “urged him to come out and present himself for the people.”

Reading his profile, BGDI’s coordinator, Prof Augustine, noted that Dr Briyai is INEC’s resident electoral commissioner for Cross River State, assumed duty in the state on the July 11, 2017, “and has been working tirelessly in ensuring the growth and successful development in the entire electoral process in Cross River and entire Nigeria.

“The governorship aspirant was born on June 20 1963 at Amassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government of Bayelsa state to the families of late Mr Lawrence A Briyai and Mrs Caroline Ebitenyoun Lawrence Briyai.

“He attended St Stephen’s State Schools, Amassoma from 1970 – 1976, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate and passed with Credit. He proceeded to Government Trade Centre, Tungbo in Sagbama LGA of Bayelsa State in 1976, but was transferred along with his school mates in 1978 to Government Trade Centre, Ekowe where he obtained a pre-vocational Certificate in 1979. He was again transferred to Government Technical College, Tombia in Degema LGA, Rivers State where he completed his course of study in Automobile Mechanics in 1982 and was awarded WAEC Technical Certificate and the Federal Craft Certificate.

“Dr Briyai later enlisted into the Nigerian Airforce on July 3, 1982 by the then Flt. Lieutenant DSP Alamieyeseigha and Flight Lt SA Atti at the Nigerian Air Force Station Port Harcourt, and was trained at the ground Training (GTG), Nigerian Air Force station, Training Command in Kaduna.

“He obtained his GCE O’L as a private candidate in 1984 and 1985 after undergoing a six-month study at Nigerian Air Force Continuing Education program at the Nigerian Air Force station, Makurdi, Tactical Air Command, Benue State. From there he proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt where he bagged a Bachelor Degree in Microbiology and M.Sc. in Parasitology from the Bayero University, Kano; a post – graduate diploma in Education from the Federal College of Education, Kano and PhD in Environmental Parasitology from the University of Port Harcourt,” he said.

Augustine said that “while in the Air Force, he attended the Institute of Technical Training, Royal Air Force, CosFord, West Midland, where he obtained Aircraft Armament and Safety Certificate.

“In 2003, he obtained a Certificate in Security and Safety Management at the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi, Lagos as Air Force Officer and was an instructor and worked on over ten aircrafts including the Whirlwind Helicopters and Jet Fighter plane like the MB 339, L39ZA, Tornado and vJaguar Aircraft.

“The young Frankland, had before joining the Academia served as a non-commissioned officer in the Nigerian Air Force for over 20 years and rose to the rank of a Warrant Officer.

“In 2015 to 2017, he was the associate dean of Students Affairs, Niger Delta University, but before his appointment as the resident electoral commissioner, Dr Briyai was the Dean of Students Affairs, NDU, Wilberforce lsland, Bayelsa state.

“He is a member of several professional associations/societies and had many awards in his kitty and had also invented a bomb rack test bench for the L39ZA Air Craft at 303 Flying Training School, Nigerian Air Force station, Kano,” he said.
