The outgoing governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, has accused the All Progress Congress (APC) of using former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to legitimise illegality during the just concluded November 16 gubernatorial poll.
Governor Dickson stated this during a world press briefing held three days after the election in Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital, noting that if Chief Ndutimi Alaibi had emerged the PDP candidate, it would have been a humiliation to him.
According to him, “people perceived that Ndutimi Alaibi was not supportive to me and my system, and is backed to be flag bearer of my party which I built to humiliate me. If you present that to me 100 times, I will shoot it down 100 times. So those who packaged that ambition in that manner didn’t mean well for me, the party and for the former President Goodluck.
“Something we should distance from in my party was framed as a contest between him and me, which I warned and cautioned against, so that even if we make mistake, we correct it and move on.
“These are some of the development you all need to know, which l don’t want to talk about because of the deep respect I have for him, which is the right thing to do,” he said.
Dickson however condemned the notion that the APC won due to the disagreement between him and former President Jonathan, describing it as balderdash and falsehood.
He said, “The APC is only trying to justify the daylight robbery of the democratic rights of our people, desperately looking for justification.
He accused the national chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, of using the gimmicks of hallelujah and praises, showered on former President Jonathan as a tool of rigging.
Dickson said all those praises where the foundation of the gross violation of the fundamental human rights of the people.
The governor emphasized that no politician had stood beside Jonathan more than he has, noting that this was why they systematically used his name and image to legitimise illegality.
They took David Lyon to him, talked about him and even visited him and appeared to be celebrating a victory never earned. So on the part of the APC, they are strategic and have succeeded in using his name to justify the allocation of figures in the just concluded elections, he said.
