The chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Barr Erastus Awortu, has called on all Andoni people to embrace peace and encourage positive values that will enhance the growth of the entire Obolo people.
He made the remark at the unveiling of the Andoni Carnival 2021 logo in an event held in Port Harcourt.
The chairman disclosed that he is committed to giving Andoni a new direction so as to achieve greatness, pointing out that Andoni represents positivity, creativity and hard work.
“We have to tell our story in a positive dimension and reinforce positive values. We should also export our values to the outside world”, he stressed.
He promised to sustain the event, adding that the ability of the traditional rulers will ensure a robust atmosphere towards the growth of the event, since they are permanent institutions.
Awortu further disclosed that he will look into the possibility of making a bye-law to make the event an annual one.
Earlier, the chairman of the Carnival committee, Ukatejit Oyet, aka UK, said the entire architecture of the carnival is designed to expose the rich cultural potentials of Obolo people to the outside world.
“Obolo people should take ownership of their treasure and build a veritable platform for cultural heritage in the scheme of things,” he maintained.
Describing the event as an opportunity to showcase the cultural and tourism potentials of Obolo people, the showbiz expert called on all Obolo people to come out in their numbers to identity with the epoch-making event, coming up through the Yuletide season to next year.
Representative of the Rivers State commissioner for Culture and Tourism poured encomiums on the chairman of Andoni LGA for his positive impact in giving Andoni a new direction, adding that the ministry will support his good intentions through the carnival show.
Eminent personalities who spoke on the sidelines of the event lauded the achievements of the Andoni council boss and urged him to sustain the tempo. They equally commended the UK Oyet led committee for “their untiring efforts at putting together a wonderful arrangement towards the unification of Andoni.”
