A word class socio-cultural organization and non-governmental organisation, Atamu Social Club of Nigeria, has ended a finishing school program at Ughelli town, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State with over seventy participants in attendance.
The event, which was held at an events centre, Abraham’s Place, with the theme, ‘Positioning for Greatness,’ drew together participants from different communities across Urhobo land and Delta State in general.
In his opening remarks during the one day event, a past president of the social club and a former editor of the Guardian Newspapers, who is also the CEO of the event centre, Mr. Abraham Ogbodo, said “This is the fourth finishing school program we as a social club are organizing. We decided to organize this very one here at home in order to bring our young graduates together to also benefit from the program.
“Finishing school program is all about mentoring, coaching, remodeling and reforming young graduates in order to make them useful and presentable to the labour market and to also make them useful to themselves. It’s a place to learn new skills and acquire modern ways of achieving your dreams in life. I advise you to steal opportunities instead of money. All of us in this social club are respected professionals in our chosen careers. Take us as role models and mentors. I advise you again to grab this very opportunity and use it better your lives,” he said.
Speaking on the topic, ‘Enterpreneurship and Business Management,’ another past president of the club and also director (South-South Zone) of the Bank of Industry, Mr. Obaro Osah, advised the participants to always make use of the financial programmes of the Federal Government’s financial development institution, in the areas of welding/fabrication, crop/food processing, fashion designing, bakeries etc, by accessing their loan facilities.
Also, Mr. Teddy Okumakube, a financial development expert and facilitator of the program, urged the participants to be disciplined and prudent in loan management so as to avoid debt and also make themselves credit worthy to financial institutions or individuals.
President of Atamu Social Club of Nigeria, Chief Fidelis Odia, expressed joy over the success of the event, expressing gratitude to “members of this great club that pulled their financial resources together to put up this program and also find time to attend. I remain grateful to them. I also thank our participants for finding time to come here today. I’m overwhelmed with the population of young people that attended. I want to advise all of you to make use of the new skills and modern knowledge you acquired today. You have been mentored, coached, restructured and finally, repositioned for greatness. It’s now left for you to put what you learnt from here into practice,” he said.
The event which was moderated by an Urhobo-born international social communications expert and public speaker, Dr. Benson Uwheru, who is also the secretary general of the social organization, had in attendance, Bar. Matthew Ogagavworia, financial secretary of the club, Mr. Johnson Agagbo, past president of the club and Chief David Akoro, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the club.
