Amaechi’ll Do Well as President ~ Sokonte Davies

By Ebube Egbufor

Former executive director, Marine and Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Dr. Sokonte Davies, has thrown his weight behind those rooting for the minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, to run for president in 2023, noting that he will not disappoint Nigerians if given a chance.

Dr. Davies who spoke recently to news men at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa said Amaechi is very qualified to lead Nigerians judging from his performances as former chairman of the Speakers’ Forum, former governor of Rivers State and currently minister of Transportation.

According to him, there is nothing that is expected of Amaechi that he has not done, neither is there any requirement for ascending to the level of the president that he does not possess.

Dr. Davies noted that Amaechi has not only shown capacity at the federal level, being a two-time minister in the same ministry, but has also shown capacity that he could deliver as a governor for 8 years.

“He was governor for eight years, he delivered. Fair and objective minds will compare his tenure as a governor and that of others and will easily rate him to be ahead of those who were before and after him.

“He was also speaker for eight years and he led the Speaker’s Forum all through. Speakers are independent minded people and for them to say, ‘lead us for eight years’, it means they have seen enormous capacity in him for leadership, and he didn’t disappoint them”, Davies said.

He added that while a member of the House of Representatives (representing Bonny/Degema federal constituency), he met former speakers who spoke of Amaechi with very high regard, noting that the commendations from the minister’s former colleagues was just expressing the obvious.

Dr. Davies further said that even as the leader of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Amaechi has been doing well, stressing that “there’s no level of government or politics that he has not participated in and for which he didn’t come out in flying colours.

“He has greatly excelled himself in all the assignments he has been blessed by God to handle. It’s money I know he does not have, but I believe when the time comes, people of goodwill will make sure somebody like that ascends to that level to lead the country and I believe by God’s grace when he gets there, he’ll do very well.”
