The ancient kingdom of Okparabe in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State was recently agog as an internationally acclaimed Law teacher, Prof. Alex O. Akpodiete, was honoured with the revered chieftaincy title of ‘Atavwa r’Ovie of Okparabe kingdom’ (The One Who Tells the Truth), by HRM, Andrew Oghenevwodo, Osakpa 111, Ovie of Okparabe kingdom.
The cultural event which was held on February 14, 2025 at the palace of the Okparabe monarch, brought together palace chiefs, men, women and youths of the kingdom. Other highly respected personalities were also present at the ceremony to witness the cultural celebration.
Addressing crowds of people the chieftaincy title was bestowed on him by the monarch, the highly elated Prof. Akpodiete said, “I am deeply humbled and honored to receive the traditional chieftaincy title of ‘Atavwa r’ Ovie of Okparabe Kingdom’ (The One Who Tells the Truth) from my ancestral community. This recognition is not just a title but a sacred responsibility I hold close to my heart.
“I am committed to continuing my work for my people and Africans at large – whether through education, flood/disaster relief, medical assistance, school/exam fees aid, micro-business startup support for women, or any other way Almighty God empowers me to serve.”
Speaking further, Prof. Akpodiete expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the guests that graced the occasion.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our monarch, HRM, Andrew Oghenevwodo, Osakpa III, the Palace Council of Chiefs, and the entire Okparabe Kingdom for this incredible honour. This achievement is not by my might but by the grace of God, and to Him alone be all the glory.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey. Together, we will continue to uplift our communities and make a lasting impact.”
