African Students’ Parliament Confers Leadership Award on Education Commissioner

The leadership of the African Union Students Parliament has extolled the leadership qualities of the Bayelsa State commissioner for Education, Hon. Gentle E. Emelah, by awarding him the Pan African Leadership Merit Award.

The delegation led by its speaker, Rt. Hon. Kewul Mensah Abel, of the Institute of Professional Studies Medina, Accra Ghana, who visited the Education helmsman in his office at the Education House, Ovom Yenagoa, said the team came to Nigeria on an ‘Anti-Drug Abuse Campaign’ and made it a point of duty to visit Bayelsa with their message.

Rt. Hon. Kewul who thanked the commissioner for his open door policy which made the visit possible, said “Today, Africa is faced with dire consequences of years of neglect of youths in its rank, this has resulted in various social vices such as conflict, kidnapping, bombing, robberies, drug abuse, cultism etc which has assumed an alarming dimension.

“With respect to the above, African Students Union has taken her time to scrutinize this commissioner who has committed his time to serve the common good in accordance to the Pan-African Ideology. At this time that the youths need exemplary leaders as role models, we have carefully selected your highly respected person sir to honor you with Pan- African Leadership Award.

“It was Charles Haddon Surgeon who said, ‘Carve your name on hearts not on marble.’ While many have only verbalized effective service delivery, patriotism, philanthropy and service to mankind, very few have only stood out to demystify effective service delivery, as cotton Mathew said.

“Our recipient for today is a detribalized Nigerian, lover of students/youths and a charismatic personality whose credible credentials of efficient and effective service delivery, high administrative acumen, nation building and dedicated leadership is worthy of emulation.

“So much so that the African Students Union Parliament conference held at the University of Ghana, Legon Accra, the immense contributions of this man of outstanding understanding to effective service delivery, his outstanding stride in Bayelsa State Ministry of Education, support to youths and students and other areas of his endeavor was brought to the front burner by our Nigerian representatives,” he said.

Commissioner for Education Bayelsa State, Hon. Gentle E. Emelah in his response, thanked them for the honour, and dedicated the award to all children of Bayelsa State.

The commissioner was joined in the meeting by the Human Resources Manager (HRM), Ministry of Education, Mr. Simon Peter Okene, and Mrs Biboye Ogola, director Inspectorate Ministry of Education Bayelsa State.
