Bearing several placards with varied inscriptions such as ‘Military, Stop Killing Us,’ ‘Military is Here to Protect Us, Not Kill Us,’ and ‘Army, Kill Criminals Not Law-Abiding Youths,’ youths of Abonnema, headquarters of Akuku-Toru local government area (AKULGA) of Rivers State on Monday, November 12, 2018 took to the streets to protest against the alleged killing of one Sepribo Black-Duke by the military on Friday night, November 9, 2018 in Abonnema.
In a chat with newsmen, Mpaka Briggs said, “We cannot be living in fear of a set of people who were brought to protect us, because at the slightest excuse, they will kill one of us.”
Briggs described the late Sepribo Black-Duke as “a friendly and law-abiding person.” He added that “so we were all shocked to hear that the military shot and killed him on Friday night. We are not happy and so, we have come out to tell the world and relevant agencies to help us to stop this trend.”
When the protesting youths got to the AKULGA secretariat in Abonnema, the council boss, Hon. Roland Sekibo was on hand to calm their frayed nerves with the assurance that he would convey their pain and anguish to the appropriate quarters, including the governor of the state.
