Police arrest Father for Selling Kids for N1.4m, Parade Officer for Robbery

The Rivers State Police Command said it has arrested one Mr. ThankGod Ekwueme for allegedly selling his three children for N1.4m.

The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko while parading the suspect alongside 6 of his accomplices before Journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday said they were arrested after thorough investigations.

SP Iringe-Koko said the operatives of the Command also arrested a Police Corporal, Bright Oke who has now been dismissed for alleged armed robbery and car snatching.

The Police image maker said, “Operatives attached to the CP Monitoring Unit on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at about 5.00pm, based on the revelation of two suspects earlier arrested in a case of child trafficking, extended the investigation to Omudioga community in Emohua LGA of Rivers State and Ogbaku, in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State where they arrested the duo of Ndubuisi Egbueri ‘M, and Ndubuisi Wosa ‘M,’ (at Omudioga) and one Chioma Anele ‘F (at Ogbaku).

“Both Ndubuisi Egbueri and Ndubuisi Wosa confessed to receiving one of the baby, which they later handed over to Hon. Regina Aki ‘F at Rukpokwu in Port Harcourt. Hon. Regina Aki was also arrested and she admitted to contacting one Favour Amaewhule ‘F at Aluu, where the baby was sold in the presence of Michael Charles, the father of the baby”.

Ekwueme confessed to Journalists that he was intercepted by OSPAC in his community Omerelu, Ikwerre LGA when he was about selling his new born baby, and was handed over to Elele Police Division from where he was transferred to CP Monitoring unit.

SP Iringe-Koko said, “Subsequently, Favour Amaewhule ‘F, who admitted to buying the baby for the sum of N700,000.00, while N350,000.00 was paid to Michael Charles, the father of the baby, and N350,000.00 was paid to Hon. Regina Aki and partners, was arrested”.

She disclosed that the baby bought by Favour Amaewhule has been recovered, and investigation is in top gear with a view to recovering the other babies received by Chioma Anele.

Mother-inlaw of Mr Ekwueme explained to newsmen that before now, the suspect has been lying to her that her grand children died after child birth.

She said the suspect Ekwueme was taking advantage of her daughter (his wife) who is deaf and dumb to perpetrate the act of selling the her children upon delivery.

Our correspondent reports that the command also disclosed that seven suspected child traffickers were arrested and two children between the ages of 2 weeks and 3 years were rescued.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed that the arrested Police officer alongside three of his accomplices, were intercepted by men of C41 intelligence unit when they went to snatch a Toyota Corolla at Gateway axis of Ada George road in Port Harcourt. Adding that a single barrel gun was recovered from them.
