Regions 11 and 12, District 404A1 of the Lions International Club, both based in Warri, Delta State, have presented relief materials worth millions of naira to Okwagbe and Emadadja communities in Ughelli South Local Government Area and Ozoro kingdom in Isoko North Local Government Area.
The three communities, all in Delta State, have been affected by the ravaging flood.
Presenting the palliatives, ranging from bags of rice and beans, cartons of indomie noodles, tubers of yams, toiletries, bags of clothes, mosquito nets and others to the IDP camps in the communities, chairpersons of regions 11 and 12, Loin Faith Johnson and Lion Oghenekevwe Shola Abigor respectively, told the flood victims to be of good cheer and to make good use of the palliatives while in the camps.
They said, “On behalf of our club and regions and the governor of district 404A1, Lion Anogwi Anyanmu, we came to sympathize with you over the pains and hardship you are all passing through as a result of this unexpected ravaging flood.
“From reports in the media and from what we have seen today, the flood has really destroyed many farmlands, businesses and residential houses. It rendered many here homeless and brings hardship and severe hunger upon you. In fact, the devastating effect of the ravaging flood is terrible on the people especially on the area of your health.
“The flood also brought water borne diseases and exposed you to other health hazards in these camps. These diseases can affect both children and adults. This is why you should maintain personal hygiene while in these camps,” they said.
Johnson and Abigor noted that the impact on the flood victims “is the reason why we came together as a club that is committed to the welfare of our people by rendering humanitarian and voluntary services to the society to bring these palliatives to you.
“We are presenting these palliatives to you to support all of you in these hard times. All our members are generous and kind-hearted people and we voluntarily donated the financial resources to procure these relief materials. We are equally sharing in your pains, hardship and agony as a result of this ravaging flood. We know the relief materials might not be as much as you expect, but we want to plead with you to accept them with love and to also make good use of them in these camps. We implore the camp co-ordinators to be fair when sharing the relief materials. God will protect all of you and bring you back to your various homes after the flood,” they said.
Receiving the relief materials from the club on behalf of the flood victims in the IDP camps, the camp co-ordinators appreciated Lions International Club for the gesture they displayed in supporting them.
Lamenting the critical conditions they face, such as sleeping in the open school fields and sleeping at times with empty stomachs, they called on other international and indigenous social clubs within and outside the country to emulate Lions International Club as they thanked the governor of the district 404A1 of the club, Lion Anogwi Anyanmu for his show of love and kindness.
