The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Bayelsa State, has reportedly resolved to send a congratulatory message to the state governor, Senator Douye Diri, on his “successful two years in office.”
It was also learnt, the letter could likely include an endorsement of Senator Diri for a second term in office.
The message, according to the governor’s special adviser on religious affairs, Rev. Godspower Asingba, is a fall-out of Senator Diri’s cordial relationship with the Church over the years, and his people oriented policies and programmes.
Rev. Asingba stated this recently, during a brief interview after an interactive session with the leadership of various churches at Overcoming Lamb Assembly, Yenezue-Gene in Yenagoa.
The SA reiterated that, since assumption of office, Governor Diri’s peaceful disposition and love for the Church has been beyond reproach, while there has also been relative peace in the state.
Rev. Asingba added that all churches within the CAN umbrella would be mobilized to ensure peace, credibility and fairness during the forthcoming polls.
According to him, concerted efforts would be made to ensure that Christians in the state are well guided towards having their voter’s card so as not to be disenfranchised.
He stated that, as true leadership comes from God, only God-fearing persons can give Bayelsans the much needed guidance, and that Diri has all it takes to give the citizens the dividends of true democratic governance.
The decision for Diri’s endorsement, according to our reporter, was reached during an interactive forum between the special adviser and the leadership of several Christian religious bodies in the state.
The interactive session was an epoch making event, as central in the speeches of successive speakers was endless x-ray of the governor’s cordial working relationship with CAN and other religious bodies, thereby ensuring relative peace since assumption of office.
It would be recalled that Governor Diri, who on February 14, 2022, marked the second year anniversary of his ‘Prosperity’ administration, was widely eulogized in the mass media, for the uncommon plethora of commissioned and ongoing projects in the state.
