Rivers IPMAN Boss Laments State of Port Harcourt Refinery, Impact on Members

The new chairman of the Port Harcourt Unit of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), King George Abraham Appie, has lamented the non-functional state of the Port Harcourt and its negative impact on his members.

Fielding questions from newsmen Wednesday in his office, Appie said the situation at the refinery has left untold harsh on IPMAN members, causing some of them to turn to menial and other jobs to survive.

The chairman, who lamented that the slowdown in operations at the refinery had affected the living standard of their members, vowed to do everything possible to restore their dignity as petroleum marketers.

“You can’t believe that some of our members have been suffering, due to the closure of the Port Refinery depot. The situation is so bad that some of them can no longer cater for their families by providing basic amenities, some cannot even pay rent.

All of these will be addressed by my administration, and with the cooperation of our members the sky will be our limit,” Appie said.

The Rivers IPMAN boss expressed hope that the ailing refineries in the country would soon bounce back to life.

“I will be happy to see the refineries working again. Most of our members are suffering and business is no longer what it used to be, that’s why I want the refineries to come back to operation”, he said.

The new Port Harcourt Unit chairman, King George Abraham Appie whose term as chairman of the unit was recently endorsed by the Supreme Court, promised to take the association to the next level by uniting all aggrieved parties in the unit.

He said he is aware that there is bound to be aggrieved persons in the union, hence his resolve to unite the unit under his leadership.
