Archbishop Odutemu Conducts Confirmation Service at Oviri-Olomu

The Olomu Archdeaconary in Ughelli Diocese, Anglican Communion was recently in a festive mood as the Archbishop of Bendel Province and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, His Grace, Most Revd. Cyril Odiboro’Oghene Odutemu, conducted this year’s confirmation service at St. James Anglican Church, Oviri-Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. 

While delivering his sermon, the archbishop expressed joy over the large number of candidates for confirmation, for Girls Guild, for the Women Guild and for the Mother’s Union of the church.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Build Your Spiritual House,’ the man of God said, “Confirmation is to make you stronger in your faith and service to God. It’s the same thing for all of you that would be enrolled today into the different groups in the church.

“As you are going to be confirmed today, it’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit upon your lives and you are today separated from this sinful world. It’s now your duty to build your spiritual house by repenting completely of every sin and also to separate yourself from sins. You are now a new creature. Old things are passed away.

“Therefore, you must be dedicated and committed disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. Since you have laid your hands on the plough, there’s no looking back to the world again. Jesus is coming soon. I pray that God will strengthen you and his grace will speak for you at all times,” the archbishop prayed.

Addressing the archbishop, his wife and guests during the grand reception after the confirmation service, the archdeacon of Olomu Archdeaconary, Ven. R. Y. O. Ayadju, thanked the archbishop for the great honour done him for conducting the confirmation service which parishioners described as the best in the archdeaconary since many years. 

“On behalf of the clergy, parishes and the entire Olomu Archdeaconary, we welcome our Archbishop, Most Revd. Cyril Odiboro’Oghene Odutemu, and his lovely wife, Mama Ughelli/Bendel for this great honour done to us today. In the same way, we also want to thank our amiable and respected Olomu monarch, HRM, Richard Layeguen Ogbon, Oghoro 1, the Ohworode of Olomu kingdom. We also thank another royal father present here with us, the regent of Ngbilebiri-Mein Kingdom, HRM, Akpasele Sigana Andrew.

“Again, our words of appreciations are always with our Sen. Sir Emmanuel Edesiri Agwariavwodo, Olorogun Macaulay Ovbagbedia, the Otota of Olomu kingdom, Chief Samuel Oboramohweyere, the chairman of this reception, Chief J. A. Ewenede, the president-general of Oviri-Olomu community and all our guests in this occasion. I thank you and your contributions to the success of this year confirmation service.”

The vicar of St. James Anglican Church, Oviri-Olomu who is also the host of this year confirmation service in the Olomu Archdeaconary, Rev. E. F. O. Ejenavi expressed joy over the success of this year confirmation service.

He thanked the archbishop, his parishioners and the entire Oviri-Olomu community for the great support given the church during the reception for the archbishop and his wife. 

The confirmation service ended with laying of hands by the archbishop on the new communicants, the new members of the Girls Guild, the Women Guild and of the Mothers Union as full-fledged members of these various groups and also administering the Holy Communion on them as a spiritual sign of their new calling. 

Among the dignitaries that graced the confirmation service were HRM, Richard Layeguen Ogbon, Oghoro 1, RDN, Royal Canon, the Ohworode of Olomu kingdom, HRM, Akpasele Sigana Andrew, the regent of Ngbilebiri-Mein Kingdom, Sen. Sir Emmanuel Edesiri Agwariavwodo, Olorogun Macaulay Ovbagbedia, the Otota of Olomu kingdom, Chief Samuel Oboramohweyere, the chairman of the grand reception, Chief J. A. Ewenede, the president-general of Oviri-Olomu community, Chief Austin Etata, the secretary-general of Oviri-Olomu community, Chief David Akperhe, Mr. Ogbevire Efekoha, High Chief Egberibo James, the Olotu of Ngbilebiri-Mein Kingdom, Chief Fuludu Julius Gesiyemeowei and host of others.
