The Evwreni home of the former executive director on projects of the NDDC Board, Chief (Engr.) Samuel Adjogbe, was a beehive of social activities over the weekend as the people of Unenurhie community, Evwreni kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State paid him a courtesy visit.
The Unenurhie delegation which comprised of elders, women and youths of the community was led by the Otota (spokesman) of the community, Mr. Joseph Bicycle, and the community’s president-general, Mr Peter Maison.
Speaking during the visit, president-general of the community, Mr. Peter Maison, thanked Chief Adjogbe for his numerous contributions to the growth and development of Unenurhie community.
“On behalf of the entire Unenurhie community, we came here to appreciate you for your numerous contributions to the growth and development of our community. You have truly identified with Unenurhie as your own community and a true son of the soil, removing segregation and oppression from the way. Since when you were in the NDDC board till date, your hands of giving in terms of different supports is always with us. You haven’t turned your back against any of our demands or requests from you.
“You know our elders say, if you have nothing to offer to a lover, then always sleep at her side. This is exactly what Unenurhie community came here to do for you today. We have nothing to offer you than our words of appreciations. May God continue to promote you and open bigger doors of blessings to you.
“On the other hand too, we want to be like ‘Oliver Twist’ who asked for more. In this time, we want to plead with you to concentrate more on human resources development. We want you as a pillar to our community to teach many of young people how to fish instead of giving them fish. We want you to give attention to the youths especially young graduates, to remove them from joblessness and from the streets. We are also pleading with you to establish industries in Unenurhie community. We have enough lands for such big-time investments,” Maison said.
Responding, Chief (Engr.) Samuel Adjogbe, who is the ‘Oyivwin’ of Urhobo land, applauded the Unenurhie people for their gesture.
He said, “I’m really overwhelmed with joy for this august visit to my home this evening. Unenurhie is my own community and there is nothing that I want to do to forget all of you. My grandmother is from the place and all of you here are my brothers and sisters. All your requests and demands are equally noted. We shall attend to them by the grace of God.
“Therefore, as leaders in the community, you must know that peace is a panacea to development and paramount to healthy living. Always uphold transparency and accountability in your leadership. This is the only way you can win the trust of the people. This will also bring about peaceful co-existence amongst you and your neighbouring communities. All what we need in Evwreni kingdom is peace and unity; we have no time to fight ourselves. Once again, I welcome all of you to my home and let’s celebrate the moment together in love and happiness.”
On the Unenurhie delegation were Mr. Joseph Bicycle, the Otota of Unenurhie community, Mr. Peter Maison, president-general of Unenurhie community, Mr. Young Erhiurhoro, assist. secretary of Unenurhie community, Dr. Johnson Abrucha, Akpohor of Unenurhie community, Evang. Isaac Oriodofe, vice president-general of Unenurhie community, Comr. Moneyard Edjere, the Olotu’Rode of Unenurhie community, Mr. Frank Imudje, an elder stateman, Mrs. Charity Akpomrere, women representative, Mr. Friday Diamond and Mr. Eguono Utuedor, youth representatives.
