President-general of Unenurhie community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Peter Maison, and other distinguished sons and daughters of the community have donated over one hundred copies of a literary book authored by a great writer and journalist, Young Erhiurhoro, to school children numbering over one hundred and twenty in the community with a call on parents and guardians to improve on the decayed moral sanity among children in today’s society.

The presentation, which was done recently at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Unenurhie during a one-day seminar organized by the community leadership, brought together parents, guardians, community leaders, elders, youth leaders, teachers, religious leaders, pupils and students from both the primary and secondary schools in the community.

Delivering the seminar paper titled, ‘Ten Ways To Secure Your Destiny And Protect Your Education,’ the guest speaker and also author of the literary book, Prince Young Erhiurhoro, Kjc, advised the school children to use well the educational opportunity provided for them by their parents to better their lives, adding that education is a light that can lift the community and her people from the darkness of illiteracy, backwardness and poverty.

The author urged parents and leaders present to make education a priority and the right of every child born in the community. He also called on the Delta State government to ensure the fencing of the primary and secondary schools in the community to protect the school children and staff of the two schools from the ugly hands of kidnappers terrorizing every part of the country in recent times.

High point of the event was the formal presentation of the literary book titled, ‘African Moonlight Tales’ to the students and pupils of the different schools by the president-general of the community, Mr. Peter Maison, on behalf of the community spokesman, Mr. Joseph Bicycle, who represented the traditional head, His Highness, Moses Inore, the Odion’Rode of Evwreni kingdom.

In his remarks, the president-general who was full of appreciation to the author of the educational book, urged the state ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to recommend the literary book for use in secondary schools across the state, noting that “the book is loaded with fascinating and interesting stories with moral lessons from them. On my own, I recommend it for all children and adults across the country. The author tried to revive an age-long traditional practice of moonlight story-telling by our elders in those days. Today, modern technology has gradually wiped away this interesting practice by the introduction of different movie stations and applications in the internet. Parents do not have good time with their children again like the time of old. This is why I cherish the stories in this book.

“These books I’m presenting to you today are donated by myself and some of our brothers and sisters in diaspora who are working tirelessly to contribute and improve on your education here. For the purpose of record keeping and appreciation, I must mention the following people to you for their donations and support to this seminar. They are Mr. Victor Omote, Mr. James Okparikpu, Mr. Meshack Eke and Madam Anne Quinnete Edjereki.  I therefore advise all of you to read this book diligently and make good use of it,” he said.

The seminar was attended by over 150 participants. Among whom were Mr. Joseph Bicycle, community spokesman, Dr. Johnson Abrucha, assistant spokesman, Mr. John Inono, former president-general, Mr. Frank Imudje, an elder/opinion leader, Rev. Peter Atumremu, vicar of the church, Mr. God’s power Orunuaduvwe, Enurhie youth chairman, Mr. Johnbull Odophor, Uruwheru youth chairman, Mr. Morrison Edafe who led staff and pupils of Unenurhie Primary School to the seminar, Mrs. Ebah who led staff and students of Unenurhie Secondary School to the seminar,  parents and others.

The seminar which drew many questions from the students ended with the presentation of over one hundred copies of the literary book to all the participants, including parents, teachers and community leaders.
