CSP Benjamin Igometi, the DPO of ‘A’ Division of the Ughelli Police Station, Ughelli has called on the leadership of the Uwheru kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State to be more united in order to curb the challenges of insecurity and crime in the kingdom.
The senior police officer who is also an indigene of Uwheru made this call recently in his office during a chat with our correspondent.
Speaking on the issue of unity, DSP Igometi said, “The issue of insecurity and crime is so rampant and worrisome in the entire Uwheru kingdom; ranging from the alleged Fulani herdsmen terrorizing farmers and other people in the kingdom to different degrees of crime in the land.
“We are confronted with numerous media reports on one issue of insecurity and the other from the kingdom on daily basis. It’s very disheartening that Uwheru is now facing one problem or the other on insecurity and crime on daily basis.
“However, in my own little way, I want to advise the leadership of Uwheru kingdom, as a security expert and secondly, as an indigene of the kingdom, to be more united in order to confront these security challenges headlong. We must know that only the police can’t fight insecurity in our communities. The communities must join forces with the police to make the work easy for us.
“On this note, I want to plead with the central leadership of the kingdom to form a synergy with the leadership of the various communities across the kingdom. As it’s today, Uwheru as a kingdom has more than fifteen communities. Let the central leadership carry along all the communities. When this is done, then it will be easy for the kingdom to curb these challenges of insecurity and crime.
“We shouldn’t forget the old wise saying that, a house that is divided against itself can’t stand. All our different arms of government in the kingdom shouldn’t work against each other. It won’t take us anywhere. If we say we are one, then let’s equally respect the central leadership since their government binds every Dick and Harry in the kingdom. Unity we stand, divided we fall is a motto we must all uphold if we must move forward as a kingdom.”
The security expert also appealed to Uwheru youths to desist from crime and every act of criminality.
“I also want to appeal to Uwheru youths to desist from crime and every form of criminality. It’s very certain and expedient that, not all the crimes being committed in the land may be associated to or just linked to the alleged Fulani herdsmen. May be, some of those crimes are masterminded and carried out by our own boys.
“Therefore, my candid advice to the youths is that, they should remove themselves from any form of criminality. I know our youths are very productive and innovative in many skills.
“In this area, I want to plead with the government and our people that are well placed in the society today to come to their aid as much as possible. Many of them are ready to undergo any kind of training, but their major challenge from what I found out from many of them, was lack of fund. They need financial support to achieve their dreams and to remove unemployment from the land,” he said.
