By Amos Odeh, Yenagoa

The managing director, Oloibiri Oil and Gas Services Ltd, an indigenous oil and Gas producing company base in Oloibiri, Bayelsa State, Mr Epereola Amangala, has lauded the Senate for directing the Petroleum Technology  Development Fund (PTDF) and contractors to commence the immediate construction of the  Oil and Gas Research Centre and Museum (OGRCM) in Oloibiri, Bayelsa State where oil was first drilled in Nigeria, as well as President Muhammadu Buhari for approving N35 billion for the project.

Mr Amangala spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the Senate decision to push for the immediate action on the proposed museum project which has been on the drawing board for ages, adding that with the Senate’s prompt action on the project, the poverty stricken people of Olobiri, who were long abandoned, have heaved a sigh of relief and expect a turn around in the hitherto crude oil ravaged and environmentally impacted land.

“I congratulate and facilitate with President Muhammadu Buhari, the Senate President Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, the minister for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva and the senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district, Senator Degi Eremienyo Biobarakuma, for actualizing the long-awaited Oloibiri oil and Gas museum.

“It is a project the people of Oloibiri Community and other communities where oil and gas was first struck, and oil explorations severely affected over the years have been waiting for.

“This development has rekindled our hope that for 63 years after oil was first struck there will be light at dark end of the tunnel. The people have been patiently living in penury and in darkness. The dream of a museum is now in the offing. We thank God for this.

“It is regrettable that Ogbia people are still living in old Stone Age despite remarkable contributions to the development of Nigeria. Today we are happy that PMB, Sylva and Degi are giving us hope.

“On behalf of the staff of Oloibiri Oil and Gas Serving Company Limited, as an indigenous oil and gas company with long standing experience in oil and gas activities, we are ready to partner with the Federal Government to ensure realization of this long awaited project,” he said.
