The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Province 13, Onne Rivers State, has put smiles on the faces of inmates of the Port Harcourt Prisons, when leadership of the province led by the senior pastor, Pst. (Dr) Joseph Ibani Frank Briggs, paid a visit to the prison with food items, toiletries and copies of the Bible.
Speaking to newsmen after the presentation of the items to the prisons officials, the pastor in charge of the province, Pst. (Dr) Frank Briggs, said they came not only to present physical items to the inmates, but also to reach out to them spiritually.
“We are here primarily to reach out to the inmates physically and spiritually in order to give them hope and encouragement in life, which is to have Jesus Christ as their saviour. Once you have Jesus Christ as your saviour, you certainly have hope in life,” Briggs noted.
Delivering a sermon, which he anchored on Psalm 14:1, Pst. Briggs admonished the inmates not to think and behave like the biblical fool who said in his heart that there is no God and continually embarked on abominable things because he had concluded in his wicked heart that there is no God. He advised them to rather have the fear of God, which is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom and never to act like a fool who does not know God.
He also made them to understand that there are three prisons for humanity. These are the prison of satan, prison to physically confine somebody (man-made prison) and the prison of God. He however admonished them to fear all but the most dreaded of them all, is the prison by God.
Also, the Assistant Provincial Pastor of the church, in charge of Christian Corporate Social Responsibilities (CCSR), Pst. Olasubulumi Akintude, who said their visit to the prison yard was to bring hope to the inmates who felt the world had forgotten them. “In RCCG, such visit is usually part of our Christian Corporate Social Responsibility (CCSR) and was in line with the instruction Christ gave to the church on earth.”
According to him, prisons visitation by RCCG is a continual phenomenon that cannot end. Among those who were part of the team were Pst. (Dr) Joseph Frank Briggs, Pst. (Prof) Mrs, Frank Briggs, Pst. Olasubulumi Akintude, and Pst. Emera. They were received by the Prison Chaplain, Pst. Martins Agwu, who expressed gratitude for the gesture.
