50-Years-Old Murder Suspect  Slumps, Dies in Bayelsa Court

A 50-years-old murder suspect, Bethlehem Nwanlia on Monday, threw the Bayelsa State High Court into frenzy when he flushed his chest, slumped and died while awaiting final judgement in the case of conspiracy, kidnapping and multiple murders.

The deceased, Bethlehem Nwalia, 32 years old Gideon Atama and Clever Ovo were arrested by Police operatives attached to the Operation Puff Adder now known as Violent Crime Response Unit headed by CSP Chris Nwaogbo.

The incident occured in justice Micheal Amadise  Ekadi   court eleven.

They were arrested for the 2022 murders of Odeinyefa Ogbolosingha (an in-law to Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri), Paramount Ruler Kolibo Francis Amabelimo, and Samuel Oburo in Kalaba community, Yenagoa Local Government Area.

The deceased, Bethlehem Nwanlia, was reported to have didplayed symptoms of strange ailments including high blood pressure and stroke, while at the Medium Correctional Prison at Okaka.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that drama started at the holding custody of the High Court following the announcement that the Final judgement on the case has been adjourned to 27th of October, 2026 due to the absence of the judge.

A source said ” immediately the adjournment was announced to the hearing of the suspects, one of the suspects clashes his chest, slumped and died, efforts to revive him proved abortive”.

The eye witness said men of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), the Police and lawyers were left stunned and a medical personnel was invited to confirm his status. His corpse was later taken to a hospital for confirmation.

By Paul Williams   The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, to coordinate the ongoing search-and-rescue mission of the prospective NYSC corps members and other passengers abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road, Umunoha, on October 1, 2026.  Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, said the DIG Operations arrived Imo State with two Commissioners of Police and “conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and the ongoing search-and-rescue efforts of the command CP.  “He also reviewed the operational strategies, deployment of personnel as well as operational assets, and provided further directives to strengthen the coordinated response,” he said.  The assessment was conducted alongside the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Audu Garba Bosso; the Commissioner of Police, Federal Operations, Akpan Anifiok; the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force; as well as other Service commanders and members of the management team of the Imo State Police Command.  Iniedu added that the search-and-rescue operation has been further intensified, with additional deployments of tactical teams and operational assets across identified areas, backed by intelligence-led tracking of the suspects.  “The Police are working in close coordination with sister security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted persons and the apprehension of the perpetrators,” he said.  The DIG Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, assured members of the public that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to securing the safe rescue of the 20 abducted persons and will sustain the operation until the mission is successfully concluded.  He urged members of the public and the media to remain calm and vigilant and encouraged anyone with credible information that could assist the operation to promptly contact the Police or the nearest security formation, adding that all information received will be treated with strict confidentiality.  Iniedu said updates will be issued as the operation progresses.  Share Post on
